In The Between: "A Force Beyond"
1. “I am Wahmeer,” the creature repeated, “a wisdom elder from the planet Noachia, a place where time is a hundred thousand sequents beyond earth.
2. The breath of the creature was harsh and crude, like that of a horse, but his reverse retinal vision was taking in everything.
3. Griffin wanted to touch him, but he didn’t dare.
4. Finally, Wahmeer looked away, and Griffin slumped, like he had been released from a spell.
5. The creature wasn’t huge, but it possessed a power that was beyond our knowledge, beyond human or beast.
6. It took a step, and the windows rattled and the old walls cracked like they were coming apart. It seemed that his presence could barely be held by the room.
7. A tremor coiled up Griffin’s spine, and he wanted to speak. The words wouldn’t come at first, then finally he shouted, “What are you doing here?”
8. And with faint courage rising he added, “What do you mean you’re a wisdom elder?”
